apprenticeships

If you’re not sure what career you’d like to pursue, go to the German government’s local careers advice centre Berufsinformationszentrum der Bundesagentur für Arbeit . You can also find out more on the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy website.

how do I find an apprenticeship?

You can seek advice from the guilds (Handwerkskammer), the chambers of industry and commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammer) and the Federal Employment agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit), or look online yourself.

Once you’ve found an apprenticeship, the employment department will give you practical tips about the application and the interview.

How is an apprenticeship in Germany normally completed?

An apprenticeship usually takes three years and is a mix of theory and practice. Apprentices spend some of the time working in the company/organisation concerned and some of the time at a vocational training college.
